Afsana, the mother of a nearly four-year-old boy from Chhindwara, recounts the tragic death of her son, Usaid, after he consumed a doctor-prescribed cough syrup. She explains that what started as a simple fever led to a prescription that she believes was “poison”. After taking the syrup, her son developed swelling and his urination stopped, leading to a frantic journey from a local doctor to hospitals in Chhindwara and finally Nagpur, where it was discovered both his kidneys were damaged. Afsana states that 14 to 16 children have died in a similar manner and demands strict action. She says, “The company that made the syrup is the first culprit. They should be punished severely.” Expressing a complete loss of faith in the medical system, she holds the drug company, doctors, and the entire system responsible for her child’s death.
