A SpiceJet aircraft flying from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing late on Sunday night after one of its engines reportedly developed a technical snag during descent, airport authorities confirmed.
The flight, SG 670, landed safely at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, and the full emergency was withdrawn at 11:38 pm, officials said. All passengers and crew disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
ENGINE FAILURE REPORTED MID-FLIGHT
According to Kolkata airport officials, as quoted by ANI, the aircraft’s crew alerted air traffic control after detecting a failure in one of the engines while approaching Kolkata. Emergency services were immediately placed on standby, including fire and rescue teams, before the plane made a safe touchdown. “The flight landed safely, and the full emergency was withdrawn at 23:38,” an airport official confirmed, ANI reported.
SPICEJET ISSUES STATEMENT
In a statement released early Monday, SpiceJet said the aircraft had encountered a “technical issue during descent” but landed without incident.
“On November 9, SpiceJet flight SG 670 operating from Mumbai to Kolkata experienced a technical issue during descent at Kolkata airport. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew deplaned normally,” said a SpiceJet spokesperson.
The airline did not elaborate on the nature of the technical problem but confirmed that the aircraft is being examined by engineering teams.
