A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Indian Ocean early Thursday, according to preliminary data from seismological authorities. The quake occurred at 01:24:24 IST at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 0.76°N latitude and 96.95°E longitude.
There were no immediate reports of damage or tsunami warnings, and officials said the tremor was centred far from the Indian coastline.
